thirty-seven: eyes
i read them through their eyes,
shifting twisted strands of colour
betwined around an absence:
soulwindows, behind which expression paces.
spiral muscles snarl and coil,
contract colour around nothingness
blinking, you extinguish the emotion:
the tears caught in the dark twists of the iris.
shaped by shadows, emotions, thoughts,
damasked in light-lined blue and green
hologram memories play upon the darkness:
no smoke for the fire in your eyes.
soft-edged shadow wreathed in lines of coloured fire,
arch of eyebrow; hollow of eye
caught in the half-light, sharp against the shade:
your eyes make you look sad, even when you are smiling.
